Help Singer/Songwriter Susan Gibson support nurses through the American Nurses Foundation!
Singer songwriter Susan Gibson started touring nationally in the late 1990’s mostly to avoid getting a job that involved staring at a computer screen all day. Not funny, 2020. She is best known for writing the chart-topping song, "Wide Open Spaces" performed by The Chicks.
Like most touring artists used to being on the move, the pandemic brought a quick halt to plans and calendar dates, but not to the creativity in making an independent music career work. Trading her windshield for a computer screen, Gibson hopped on the internet to do livestreams and sent singing telegrams as a means of staying in touch with her fans.
In April 2020, during the first
Covid-19 spike, Gibson wrote a song
called "Compassionate Combat" for the nonprofit organization Songs
for the Soul to say thank you to the nurses who are giving so much of
themselves to care for us through this time of Covid-19. That song has turned
into a larger project to continue reaching out to our healthcare workers who
have soldiered on through the pandemic, and Gibson has started collecting their
stories and building a virtual collage of a Thank You card for them at www.CompassionateCombat.com. Recorded
and filmed at Blue Rock Artist Ranch and Studio in Gibson's hometown
of Wimberley, TX, the project has been a positive creative light in a
strange year for this music tourist. This,
too, shall pass and there will be live shows and workshops and songwriting
coaching sessions to drive and fly to. Next time she heads out for long distant
latitudes, she’ll have a couple more songs about grace and gratitude.
